Cathie joins John Doyle for a rare United States duo tour this December for An Irish Christmas.

I'll be sharing the stage and the road with the legend himself, John Doyle, this year for “An Irish Christmas”. John and I are longtime friends and have shared decades of musical collaboration. Together we created arrangements for many of my studio recordings, we've toured as a duo throughout Europe, are both members of the all-star ensemble The Irish Music Masters, and we featured in the PBS special The Soul of Christmas fado fado! We share a deep love of traditional music which inspires the songs we write together. We are very proud that Carrick-a-rede and Grace O’Malley are now firmly in the Irish music repertoire.

Thank you all for your support and enthusiasm about this tour. It means so much. “An Irish Christmas” promises a magical evening of songs, stories, and memories of Christmastime in Ireland shared by two of Irish Music’s most beloved and highly regarded performers. We will perform at this year’s Center for Irish Studies Annual Irish Gala at The Houstonian Hotel in Houston, TX honoring Lori Gallagher, JD, founder and director of the William J. Flynn Center for Irish Studies at the University of St. Thomas. Under Lori’s leadership the center has become one of the Top 10 Irish Studies programs in the United States. This fundraising gala, aptly titled Woven and Gathered in Gratitude, will be a celebration of Irish culture and community and the incredible legacy of Lori Gallagher. All proceeds go to supporting the Irish Studies' students and scholarship fund.

I am honored to pay tribute to Lori Gallagher. I’ll be onstage with the brilliant Matt Mancuso and Pat Mangan sharing this night of music and meaning in support of Irish Studies students.

Happy Patrick’s Day! Here is some shamrock and light for you from the shores of the Irish Sea. I remember as a child my mother opening the puffy envelope containing a sprig of shamrock sent to her every March by her sister Angela back home in Kerry. My mother looked forward to that piece of home and family arriving to the house every year. She would pin it on her lapel and wear it proudly. It was a piece of home, grown on Irish soil and symbolized her people, culture, and memory as she stood watching the St Patrick’s Day parade in downtown Detroit. My father from Tipp, who never missed a day of work for any reason, would take St Patrick’s Day off and work the door at the Gaelic League. They always celebrated St Patrick’s Day. My son took his family out to the parade yesterday. Proud to be Irish and passing it on to his children. The Irish are a proud race. I am grateful to my parents for all they sacrificed to give us the life we had in America and for teaching us to never forget where we came from. Here is to all of America’s immigrants who never forget where they come from, and who, in turning to America for a better life, have not only given it the very best of themselves, they have gifted it their children.

I am celebrating Ireland's goddess and patron saint with song tonight at the sold out Ceiliúradh Lá Fhéile Bhríde[Celebration for St. Brigid’s Day] in Carlingford! Can’t wait to sing with Matt Mancuso again and to hear Zoë Conway & John Mc Intyre, Scóil Naomh Lorcan traditional orchestra, and historian Seamus Murphy. We will end the night by gathering rushes and making Brigid’s crosses - as you do!
The photo in this post shows the path beside her prayer stones in Faughert. The large stone with the white circle to the left is the head stone - for ailments that are emotional, physical, and/or neurological. Beyond that you can see the knee stone, the heart stone, the eye stone - all there for centuries so pilgrims can leave their troubles to Brigid.

You can take your cross home with you to invoke Brigid's protection and inspiration for the coming year! St Brigid's birthplace is very close to Carlingford, so this day is always an important one in the community. We hope you can come and join in!
